Biography
Gunner Jageshwar Nagar hailed from the Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, where he was born on 7 June 1985. He was recruited into the Indian Army on 20 June 2005 and was commissioned into the 318 Field Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery. After nearly a decade of service, he was deployed with the 29 Rashtriya Rifles battalion for counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir Valley. On 2 April 2015, his unit launched an anti-terrorist operation in the Pattan area of Baramulla district. Moving swiftly during the encounter, Gunner Nagar located a terrorist within his range and eliminated him. He then continued to provide covering fire for his comrades, and though he sustained a grievous head wound, he kept firing until he collapsed. Gunner Jageshwar Nagar succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the highest traditions of the Indian Army at the age of twenty-nine. For his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, he was awarded the Sena Medal (Posthumous).
