Biography
Havildar Rajinder Singh hailed from Marta Nagrota village in the Basohli tehsil of Kathua district in Jammu & Kashmir. He served with the 12th Battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry, rising through years of dedicated service to the rank of Havildar and earning the trust of his officers and men. During Operation Vijay in June 1999, his battalion was given the demanding task of recapturing Point 5203 in the Batalik sector, a towering feature held by well dug-in enemy troops. As part of the assault led by Captain Amol Kalia, Havildar Rajinder Singh scaled the steep, icy slopes under fire to close in on the summit. On 9 June 1999, amid fierce resistance and repeated enemy counter-attacks at over 17,000 feet, he fought with great courage to hold the captured ground and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, falling alongside his commanding officer and comrades. He is remembered with deep respect for his valour and steadfast devotion to duty.
