Biography

Lance Naik Satpal Singh was born on 17 January 1967 in Luhari village of Garhmukteshwar tehsil, Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Drawn to military service from childhood, he joined the Army after completing his early education and was enrolled into the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, an infantry regiment renowned for its brave soldiers and many battle honours. During the Kargil War of 1999, his battalion, part of the 81 Mountain Brigade operating in the Drass sector, was tasked with capturing key heights in the Tololing and Point 5140 area. As part of Operation Vijay, the battalion was assigned a multi-pronged assault to seize objectives in the "Three Pimples" complex, including Knoll and Lone Hill, before linking up at the Junction Point. In the course of this fiercely contested operation against entrenched enemy positions on the high reaches, Lance Naik Satpal Singh fought with great courage and laid down his life in the service of the nation.
