Biography
Lance Havildar Yugal Kishore hailed from Jalas village in the Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir. After completing his early education in his native place, he joined the Indian Army and was enrolled into the 12th battalion of the renowned Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, a regiment celebrated for its brave soldiers and its many successful operations along the borders. During June–July 1999, his unit was deployed in the Batalik Sector of Ladakh as part of Operation Vijay during the Kargil War, operating under 70 Infantry Brigade. His battalion was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4812. On the night of 30 June/1 July 1999, Lance Havildar Yugal Kishore, together with Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum and other soldiers, silently climbed towards the enemy positions from the south-east and assaulted the well-entrenched adversary through heavy automatic fire. His party displayed exceptional courage in the fierce close-quarter battle that followed. During the intense firefight, Lance Havildar Yugal Kishore was grievously wounded and later succumbed to his injuries. His gallant action helped pave the way for the eventual capture of Point 4812. A brave and committed soldier, he laid down his life in the service of the nation.
