Biography

Havaldar Bhagwan Singh Dagur was born on 2 January 1959 in Abhaurra village of Bharatpur district, Rajasthan. Growing up in a region renowned for its warrior traditions, he developed a strong sense of duty and patriotism, and nurtured a childhood dream of joining the Armed Forces. On 3 August 1977, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Indian Army and was recruited into the 17 Jat Battalion of the Jat Regiment. Over more than two decades of service he matured into a seasoned and reliable infantryman, serving across terrains from the deserts of Rajasthan to the northern mountains. During the Kargil War in July 1999, his battalion was deployed along the Line of Control in the Mushkoh Valley as part of the operation to evict Pakistani infiltrators. The unit was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4875, which dominated the Mugalpur–Drass highway. During the assault on the Pimple II feature, Havaldar Bhagwan Singh and his comrades faced heavy automatic machine-gun fire from enemy bunkers. Displaying admirable courage, they cleared all four bunkers on Point 4875, but he was struck by enemy fire during the action and succumbed to his injuries. For his gallantry, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice, he was awarded the Mention in Despatches.
