Biography
Naik Dama Ram was born on 9 July 1966 in Chaba village of Shergarh tehsil in the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan, the son of Shri Pemaram Jakhar and Smt. Mooli Devi. From childhood he aspired to serve in the armed forces. After completing his education, he joined the Jat Regiment of the Indian Army. Following his training, he was posted as a sepoy to the 20 Jat Battalion. Serving in various operational conditions and locations with his battalion, he rose to the rank of Naik. In the year 2000 he was serving with the 5 Rashtriya Rifles, a unit deployed for counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. On 5 March 2000, terrorists launched a suicide attack on the 5 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Patambara Badampur in the Ganderbal area. Despite the sudden and unexpected assault, the soldiers of 5 Rashtriya Rifles swiftly retaliated against the attackers. In the fierce encounter that followed, three terrorists were killed. Naik Dama Ram was grievously wounded in the action and laid down his life.
