Rajendra Prasad Bhambhu

Biography

Subedar Rajendra Prasad Bhambhu hailed from Maligaon village in the Kashim Pura area of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan, where he was born on 1 July 1974. The son of army veteran Badru Singh, he grew up admiring his father and wished to don the Army uniform himself. Pursuing that dream, he joined the Army on 23 February 1995 at the age of 21, after completing his school education. He was recruited into the 11th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, an infantry regiment renowned for its brave soldiers and numerous battle honours. After his training he served in various operational areas and matured into a fine soldier with admirable leadership skills. During the Kargil War in 1999, his unit was deployed in the battle zone and he took part in several operations under Operation Vijay. By 2022, with over 25 years of service behind him, he had risen to the rank of Subedar and become a dependable Junior Commissioned Officer entrusted with important operational assignments. Beyond his soldiering, he was involved in welfare activities for the local population in the Darhal area around his battalion, and was due to retire in 2023. In 2022, the 11 Rajputana Rifles was deployed in the militancy-prone Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir. At around 2 AM on 11 August 2022, armed terrorists dressed in police uniforms attempted to storm the unit's post at Parghal in Darhal tehsil. When challenged by alert sentries, the terrorists hurled grenades and tried to force entry. Subedar Rajendra Prasad and other troops joined the fight, and a fierce gun battle raged for four hours before both terrorists were eliminated. In the exchange of fire he was severely wounded and later succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty.
