Biography
Sepoy Pushpendra Singh was born in 1987 in Khutiya village of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh, the son of Shri Tej Singh. He joined the Army in 2011 and was inducted into the 20th Battalion of the celebrated Jat Regiment, a unit renowned for its fearless soldiers and numerous battle honours. In 2018, his unit was deployed in the Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir, in Kupwara district along the Line of Control. This stretch of the LOC remains highly active and volatile, with frequent ceasefire violations. On 13 August 2018, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and launched heavy mortar shelling on Indian Army posts. The Indian Army retaliated in a strong, effective and measured manner, and the exchange of fire continued for several hours. During the intense firefight two Pakistani soldiers were killed, but Sepoy Pushpendra Singh was gravely wounded and laid down his life. A disciplined and committed soldier, he devoted his life to the service of the nation.
