Biography

Major Gaurav Sharma Tyagi served in the Indian Army with 7 JAT / 14 JAT of The Jat Regiment. He made the supreme sacrifice in the Rajouri-Mendhar Sector on 17th August 2000 while serving in Jammu and Kashmir. Major Gaurav Sharma was a graduate of the 79 Regular course at the Indian Military Academy and was remembered by his course mate Lt. Col. Ashok Sharma as a close friend and a dedicated officer. He had also volunteered for the Para Commando forces. According to his family, Major Gaurav Sharma Tyagi hailed from Bharatpur village in Deoband, Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. He was due to assume the rank and responsibilities of Lieutenant Colonel in September 2000, but made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty before taking up the appointment. His courage, dedication and sacrifice continue to inspire and his memory remains a part of the proud legacy of the Indian Army.
