Biography
Sepoy Anil Kumar Tomar was born in Bawli village in the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh, into a family rooted in patriotism and military service. His father, an ex-serviceman, inspired him to follow the same path and serve the nation. Raised in a household where discipline, courage, and a sense of duty prevailed, Anil Kumar developed a firm resolve to join the Armed Forces. In 1995 he enlisted in the Indian Army and joined the Jat Regiment, being assigned to its 17th Battalion, where he served with dedication and exemplary commitment. During the 1999 Kargil War, 17 Jat was deployed along the Line of Control in the Mushkoh Valley as part of operations to evict Pakistani intruders. The battalion was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4875, which dominated the Drass–Mushkoh sector. On the night of 6 July 1999, Charlie Company launched an assault on Pimple II. As the troops fought with great courage to clear a series of fortified enemy bunkers defended by automatic machine guns, Sepoy Anil Kumar was hit by enemy fire. He soon succumbed to his injuries. His sacrifice contributed to the securing of the Pimple Complex, paving the way for the recapture of Tiger Hill.
