Biography

Sepoy Vikas Singh Gurjar was born on 1 July 1991 in Andhiyakheda village, Karauli district, Rajasthan. After completing his initial education, he joined the Indian Army in 2010 at the age of 19 and was recruited into 23 Rajput of the Rajput Regiment. He later was deputed to serve with 44 Rashtriya Rifles battalion for counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir. On the night of 22/23 February 2017, security forces received information about hardcore militants in Kungoo village, Shopian district. A joint operation was launched with elements of 44 RR and J&K Police SOG. While returning from the operation, the convoy was ambushed by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants at Mulu Chitragam who fired indiscriminately, injuring seven soldiers including two officers. Sepoy Vikas Singh Gurjar along with Lance Naik Ghulam Mohiuddin Rather and Sapper Sreejith M J succumbed to their injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
