Biography
Naik Sukhdev Singh hailed from Bhatnura village of Jalandhar district, Punjab. He served in 9 PARA (Parachute Regiment) of the Indian Army. During Operation Pawan as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka, Naik Sukhdev Singh displayed extraordinary courage and valour in the face of the enemy. On 13th March 1989, he made the supreme sacrifice while fighting militants in Sri Lanka. For his conspicuous gallantry and selfless devotion to duty, he was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, India's third highest wartime gallantry award.
