Biography
Raj Bir hailed from Bhattu Kalan village, Fatehabad district, Haryana. He served in the 11 Jat Battalion during Operation Meghdoot, the Indian Army's mission to secure the Siachen Glacier launched in April 1984. On March 22, 1986, while on patrol through the unforgiving terrain of the world's highest battlefield, Sepoy Raj Bir and his team were struck by a devastating avalanche triggered by enemy shelling. Despite rescue efforts, the extreme conditions proved insurmountable. Four of his comrades — Havildar Shyam Lal, Naik Fateh Singh, Sepoy Satyavir Singh, and Sepoy Prem Chand Dular — also made the supreme sacrifice alongside him in this tragic incident.
