Biography

Satyavir Singh hailed from Mankawas village, Dadri tehsil, Bhiwani district, Haryana. He served in the 11 Jat Battalion during Operation Meghdoot on the Siachen Glacier. On March 22, 1986, while on patrol through the unforgiving terrain of the world's highest battlefield, Sepoy Satyavir Singh and his team were struck by a devastating avalanche triggered by enemy shelling. Trapped beneath the snow in extreme sub-zero conditions, rescue efforts could not save him. Four of his comrades — Havildar Shyam Lal, Naik Fateh Singh, Sepoy Raj Bir, and Sepoy Prem Chand Dular — also made the supreme sacrifice in this tragic incident.
