Biography

Lance Naik Bidyanand Singh hailed from Panpura village in the Bhojpur district of Bihar. He enlisted in the Indian Army in 1985 and was posted to the 1st Battalion of The Bihar Regiment, serving the unit for more than fourteen years. During the 1999 Kargil conflict, Lance Naik Bidyanand Singh was part of the Charlie Company of 1 Bihar, commanded by Major M Saravanan, which assaulted the enemy position at Point 4268 on the Jubar Ridge in the Batalik sub-sector, at an altitude of around 14,000 feet. On 29 May 1999, advancing under heavy enemy fire with indomitable courage, he pressed home the attack but sustained fatal injuries during the operation. For his bravery and supreme sacrifice, Lance Naik Bidyanand Singh was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal.
