Biography

Sepoy Hardeo Prasad hailed from the Nalanda district of Bihar. He enlisted in the Indian Army and was posted to the 1st Battalion of The Bihar Regiment. During his service he was deployed in Assam and also served on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Somalia. During the 1999 Kargil conflict, Sepoy Hardeo Prasad's unit was deployed in the Batalik sector of Ladakh. On 29 May 1999, he was part of the Charlie Company of 1 Bihar that assaulted the fortified enemy position at Point 4268 on the Jubar Ridge, at an altitude of around 14,000 feet. Charging the enemy under intense artillery and small-arms fire alongside his company commander, Major M Saravanan, he sustained fatal injuries during the assault. For his exceptional valour and supreme sacrifice, Sepoy Hardeo Prasad was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal.
