In the early hours of 29 May 1999, the Charlie Company of 1 Bihar, under Major M Saravanan, launched an assault on the fortified enemy position at Point 4268 on the Jubar Ridge. Advancing under intense enemy artillery and small-arms fire after a four-hour approach march, Sepoy Pramod Kumar pressed on courageously but sustained fatal injuries.
