Biography
Grenadier Munish Kumar Yadav hailed from Ghutara Masoompur village in Bhogaon tehsil of Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh. He was inducted into the 18 Grenadiers battalion after completing his schooling. During the Kargil conflict in June 1999, his unit was deployed in the Drass sector. On 3 June 1999, he took part in the assault on the Tololing ridge at over 15,000 feet. With the platoon's advance impeded by heavy machine gun fire from an enemy sangar, he and his comrades charged the position, killing one intruder in hand-to-hand combat and gaining vital ground that facilitated the capture of Point 4599. He succumbed to his injuries and was awarded the Sena Medal.
