Biography

Wing Commander Ganta Mahendra Charles was commissioned into the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force in June 2005 following his graduation from the 175th Course of the National Defence Academy. He trained as a transport pilot and became an accomplished and ace transport pilot, with extensive expertise in various air operations. He served with 43 Squadron at Air Force Station Jorhat in Assam, operating AN-32 aircraft for tactical transport and logistics missions. On 3 June 2019, while leading an air support mission to the Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground near the Indo-China border, his aircraft lost communication and crashed in mountainous terrain, and all on board perished. He served with courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to duty throughout his career.
