Biography

Colonel Somnath Mishra was the Commanding Officer of 63 Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency formation raised in 1990 to meet the internal-security challenges of Jammu and Kashmir. A highly respected and dedicated officer known for his outstanding leadership and devotion to the nation, he played a key role in counter-insurgency operations across the difficult terrain of the Kashmir Valley. In May 2025 he was gravely injured in a road accident and admitted to the Army Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment, where he succumbed to his injuries on 17 June 2025.
