Biography

Naik Ram Swaroop Singh Mundariya was born on 6th May 1966 in Jagatpura village, near Bissau town in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. Inspired from a young age by tales of valour associated with the Armed Forces, he completed his schooling at Jatia School in Bissau and enlisted in the Jat Regiment on 13th June 1986. After his training he was assigned to the 17th Battalion of the Jat Regiment, embarking on a career defined by discipline and courage. During the Kargil War in July 1999, his unit 17 Jat was deployed along the Line of Control in the Mushkoh Valley as part of Operation Vijay. The battalion was tasked with capturing the critical feature Point 4875, which dominated the national highway between Mugalpur and Drass. In Phase II of the assault, the Charlie Company launched an attack on Pimple II on the night of 6th July 1999. The Pakistani infiltrators held several bunkers armed with automatic machine guns. Naik Ram Swaroop Singh and his comrades fought with admirable courage and cleared all four enemy bunkers on Point 4875. While doing so, he was injured in the enemy firing and soon succumbed to his wounds on 7th July 1999. For his commendable courage, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice, Naik Ram Swaroop Singh was awarded the Mention-in-Despatches.
