Biography

Sepoy Naresh Kumar hailed from Bhaloth village in the Buhana Tehsil of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan. He was born into a family steeped in patriotism and military heritage. His father, Sepoy Dharam Chand, had laid down his life for the nation during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, fighting on 16 December 1971 at Fazilka, Punjab. Inspired by this legacy of service, Naresh Kumar resolved to follow in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the Indian Army, joining the esteemed Jat Regiment. After intensive training that honed his endurance, discipline and resolve, he was posted to the 17th Battalion of the Jat Regiment, where his dedication earned him the respect of his comrades and superiors. During 1999, the 17 Jat Battalion was deployed along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and was inducted into the Mushkoh Valley to evict Pakistani infiltrators during the Kargil War. As part of the assault to capture the strategically vital Point 4875, the Charlie Company launched an attack on Pimple II on the night of 6 July 1999. Fighting with admirable courage, the troops cleared four enemy bunkers defended by automatic machine guns. During this action, Sepoy Naresh Kumar was hit by enemy fire and succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty.
