Biography
Naik Bhanwar Singh hailed from Hirasani village in the Jayal tehsil of Nagaur district in Rajasthan, and was born on 3 September 1977. He joined the Army on 10 December 1994 at the age of 17 and was recruited into the 7 Para battalion of the Parachute Regiment, an elite infantry unit renowned for its daredevil para commandos and bold operations. During the Kargil War in 1999, his unit was deployed to the Mushkoh valley in Jammu and Kashmir as part of 50 Para Brigade under 8 Mountain Division, following the large-scale Pakistani infiltration in the sector. After the capture of Point 5140 in late June, the operational priority shifted to seizing Point 4700, a task assigned to 7 Para in a multi-directional assault. Naik Bhanwar Singh and his comrades launched their attack from the south of Point 4700, between the Kirdi and Kel Nalas. During a fierce exchange of fire with the enemy, he was seriously injured and later succumbed to his wounds on 10 July 1999. His sacrifice was not in vain — 7 Para captured Point 4700 that very day. He was 22 years old.
