Biography

Chhatrapal Singh was born on 12 August 1997 in Chhawashri village, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan. He enlisted in the Indian Army in 2015 at the age of 18, initially serving in the Army Service Corps before volunteering for the elite 4 Para (Special Forces) battalion. Known for his dedication, discipline, and passion for fitness, he quickly proved himself among the best. During Operation Rangdori Baihk (April 1-5, 2020), an anti-infiltration operation near the Line of Control in Kupwara district, Chhatrapal Singh was airdropped with his fellow para commandos into the Zurhama forest area. While tracking terrorists through waist-deep snow, he noticed suspicious movement and alerted his team. The situation turned tragic when the soldiers broke through an ice cornice into a frozen stream where terrorists were hiding. The militants opened merciless fire, and Chhatrapal Singh along with four comrades made the supreme sacrifice on 5 April 2020. For his exceptional bravery, Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal on 26 January 2021.
