Biography

Vikas Singh hailed from Tarighat village in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and was educated at Kendriya Vidyalaya and the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, before attending the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the Rajputana Rifles Regiment and later served with the 57 Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu and Kashmir. During a counter-insurgency operation in the upper Kumkadi forests of Machil sector, Kupwara, on April 13, 2019, while directing his men to tighten the cordon, he lost his balance on treacherous terrain and sustained fatal head and chest injuries, succumbing on April 14, 2019.
