Biography

Sepoy Naresh Singh Sinsinwar hailed from Chhoti Ballabh village in the Iglas tehsil of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh, where he was born on 7 January 1970 into a farmer's family. Athletic and steadfast by nature, he answered the call to serve and was enrolled into the Jat Regiment on 26 February 1992, earning the respect of his comrades in the 4th Battalion. In the summer of 1999, during Operation Vijay, his battalion was deployed in the Kaksar sector. On 15 May 1999, he formed part of the patrol led by Captain Saurabh Kalia that advanced to Bajrang Post to investigate enemy movement. The party came under heavy and sustained crossfire from well-prepared Pakistani positions and, having fought until their ammunition was spent, were taken captive. Sepoy Naresh Singh endured nearly three weeks of severe hardship and torture in captivity. His mortal remains were returned on 9 June 1999, bearing the marks of the brutality inflicted upon him. He made the supreme sacrifice for the nation and is remembered with deep respect for his quiet courage and unwavering sense of duty.
