Sepoy Kanchi Singh was born in the village of Kisuagarhi in Khurja tehsil of Bulandshahar district, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a modest family, he grew up embodying resilience, discipline, and humility. Driven by patriotism and a sense of duty, he joined the Indian Army, enlisting in the 17 Jat Battalion of the Jat Regiment, one of the Army's most decorated infantry regiments. During 1999, his battalion was deployed along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and was inducted into the Mushkoh Valley on 22 May 1999 as part of Operation Vijay during the Kargil War. Under 79 Mountain Brigade, the battalion was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4875, which dominated the National Highway between Mugalpur and Drass. The assault was launched on 4 July 1999, with A and D Companies securing Whale Back and Pimple I. In the second phase, Charlie Company attacked Pimple II. The Pakistani infiltrators had constructed several bunkers, and while clearing four enemy positions defended by automatic machine guns, Sepoy Kanchi Singh was hit by enemy fire. He soon succumbed to his injuries and was martyred, having laid down his life in the line of duty.
