Biography
Sepoy Narendra Singh Rathi was born on 20 June 1968 in Itawa village, in the Budhana tehsil of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, to Shri Tal Singh Rathi and Smt. Chandan Kaur. After completing his school education, he joined the Indian Army in 1987 from Meerut and, following his initial training, was assigned to the 4 Jat Battalion of the renowned Jat Regiment, a unit celebrated for its fearless soldiers and battle exploits. Over his years of service he took part in several important army operations. In April 1999, after spending a month's leave at home, he was deployed to Kargil. During Operation Vijay, his unit was tasked with operations in the Kaksar Sector along the Line of Control, where the glaciated terrain rose to heights above 15,000 feet and the enemy held fortified, artillery-equipped bunkers. On 2 June 1999, fighting with indomitable courage and grim determination against intense Pakistani shelling and in extremely hostile weather, Sepoy Narendra Singh Rathi was severely wounded and laid down his life for the nation. His sacrifice will be remembered for ages.
