Biography

Sepoy Soran Singh Kuntal hailed from Nagariya village in Goverdhan Tehsil of Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. Drawn to the armed forces from his younger days, he completed his PUC II year and joined the Army in 1990 at the age of nineteen. He was enrolled into the 4 Jat battalion of the Jat Regiment, an infantry unit renowned for its brave soldiers and numerous battle honours. By 1999, with around nine years of service behind him, he had developed into a tough and dedicated infantry soldier. During the Kargil War, his unit was deployed in the Kaksar Sector along the Line of Control, in glaciated terrain with heights exceeding 15,000 feet. The operational plan was to evict the enemy and recapture key points along the main ridge line. As part of preparations for an offensive, several reconnaissance patrols were launched to assess the situation. On 21 June 1999, Sep Soran Singh was part of one such patrol, traversing dangerous terrain and hostile weather. The movement was noticed by the enemy, and the patrol came under intense fire. Sep Soran Singh was severely injured during the exchange and later succumbed to his wounds, laying down his life for the nation at the age of 28.
