Biography
Lance Naik Ramvir Singh hailed from the historic city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Born into a humble and patriotic family, he imbibed values of service, discipline and resilience from a young age. Drawn by a desire to serve the nation, he joined the Indian Army and was inducted into the 17 Jat Battalion of the Jat Regiment, rising through dedication and exemplary performance to the rank of Lance Naik. During the 1999 Kargil conflict, his battalion, under Col US Bawa, was inducted into the Mushkoh Valley on 22 May 1999 as part of 79 Mountain Brigade. A key objective was Point 4875, which dominated the vital National Highway between Mugalpur and Drass. As part of the assault on the Pimple Complex, the Charlie Company of 17 Jat launched an attack on Pimple II on the night of 6 July 1999. The Pakistani intruders had constructed several bunkers, and the troops fought with admirable courage to clear them under heavy automatic machine-gun fire. During this fierce engagement, Lance Naik Ramvir Singh was hit by enemy fire on 6 July 1999 and soon succumbed to his injuries. His sacrifice helped secure the objective and paved the way for the recapture of Tiger Hill.
