Biography

Sepoy Satyvir Singh hailed from Nagala Bhutia village in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh. Born into a humble and hardworking family, he was raised on the values of discipline, integrity and service to the nation. From an early age he displayed unwavering patriotism and a firm resolve to serve his country, which led him to join the Indian Army. He enlisted with the 17th Battalion of the Jat Regiment, one of the oldest and most celebrated regiments of the Army, and after rigorous training became a valued member of the battalion, earning the respect of his comrades and superiors. During the Kargil conflict of 1999, his unit, 17 Jat, was deployed in the Mushkoh Valley as part of operations to evict Pakistani intruders. The battalion was tasked with capturing the strategically vital Point 4875, a feature dominating the National Highway. On the night of 6 July 1999, Charlie Company launched an assault on Pimple II, where the enemy held several fortified bunkers armed with automatic machine guns. Fighting with admirable courage, the troops cleared all four enemy positions. During this action Sepoy Satyvir Singh was hit by enemy fire and soon succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty.
