Biography
Naik Rishipal Singh was born in Kurli village in the Gulawathi Block of Bulandshahr district, Uttar Pradesh, into a humble farming family. His father, Kartar Singh Dagar, was known for his hard work and dedication to the land. Growing up in a rural setting, Rishipal Singh imbibed the values of perseverance, courage and a strong sense of duty from an early age. Drawn to the service of the nation, he enlisted in the Indian Army and joined the 17th Battalion of the Jat Regiment. By 1999 he had risen to the rank of Naik. During the Kargil War, 17 Jat was deployed along the Line of Control in the Mushkoh Valley as part of the operation to evict Pakistani intruders. In Phase II of the assault on Point 4875, the Charlie Company launched an attack on Pimple II. The enemy had constructed several bunkers armed with automatic machine guns. Fighting with admirable courage, Naik Rishipal Singh and his comrades cleared all four enemy bunkers on Point 4875. While doing so, he was hit by enemy fire and soon succumbed to his injuries. For his commendable courage, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice, Naik Rishipal Singh was awarded the Mention-in-Despatches.
