Biography

Sepoy Hari Singh hailed from Rewari district, Haryana, born on August 15, 1993 — India's Independence Day. His father Agadi Singh was an Army veteran. He joined the Indian Army at age 18 in 2011 and was inducted into the 20th Battalion of the Grenadiers Regiment, later deputed to 55 Rashtriya Rifles in Pulwama, J&K. On the night of February 17-18, 2019, based on intelligence about terrorists linked to the Feb 14 CRPF attack, Sepoy Hari Singh along with Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal led the search from the front. While clearing a cow shed, terrorists opened heavy fire at close range. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, he refused to withdraw and immediately returned fire, preventing terrorists from breaking the cordon. Showing complete disregard for personal safety, he repositioned himself closer to obtain a better firing angle, successfully neutralized one foreign terrorist and injured another. He continued fighting until he succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice at age 25. For his extraordinary courage, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous).
