Satyaveer Singh

Biography

Rifleman Satyaveer Singh Shekhawat hailed from Rampura village in the Rajgarh tehsil of Churu district, Rajasthan. He was selected for the army through hard work and firm determination, and after completing his initial training enlisted in the Indian Army on 4 November 1988 at the age of twenty. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles Regiment, an infantry unit renowned for its brave soldiers and many battle honours. Over the following years he served with his unit in various challenging operational areas. By 1999, his battalion, part of the 81 Mountain Brigade under the command of Lieutenant Colonel MB Ravindranath, was inducted into the Dras sector on 4 June 1999 during the Kargil War. As the war intensified, 2 Rajputana Rifles was tasked with capturing the heavily defended Three Pimples complex, including Knoll and Lone Hill. Advancing through intense enemy fire over treacherous high-altitude terrain, Rifleman Satyaveer Singh pressed home the assault with great courage and laid down his life in the line of duty.
