Biography

Lance Naik Vikram Singh hailed from Dada Sudarpura village in the Kotputli tehsil of Jaipur district, Rajasthan. After completing his schooling, he joined the Indian Army and was enrolled in the 2nd Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles, a distinguished infantry regiment renowned for its brave soldiers and numerous battle honours. During the Kargil War of 1999, his battalion, part of the 81 Mountain Brigade operating in the Dras sector, was tasked with capturing critical heights in the Tololing and Three Pimples area. The enemy had to be kept under sustained pressure after the recapture of Tololing and Point 5140. Seizing the Three Pimples complex — comprising Three Pimples, Lone Hill, Knoll and Knoll Top — was essential to opening the route to the surrounding peaks dominating the Dras–Srinagar highway. A bold multi-directional assault was planned in two phases. Under the command of his officers, 2 Raj Rif was assigned to capture Knoll and Lone Hill and link up with the junction point. In the fierce fighting to secure these heavily defended positions, Lance Naik Vikram Singh fought with great courage and laid down his life for the nation.
